About Us

The Dallas Amputee Network (DAN) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that takes pride in supporting, mentoring, and guiding amputees, their families, and caregivers in the North Texas area.

Our Mission

D.A.N.’s members, supporters and the community work tirelessly to provide support, inspiration and enlightenment to fellow amputees and their caregivers to promote independence and well being so that they may thrive through an active, empowered lifestyle.

Our Goals

We work to present programs and distribute information to our members and the amputee community about new research, materials, and techniques in prosthetics. We promote physical fitness, social interaction, and giving back to the community to help provide a healthier lifestyle for everyone.

Our Founder

September 15, 1941 to July 24, 2017

After losing her leg in a motorcycle accident in 2001, Ellen chose to turn one of the hardest moments of her life into something meaningful for others.

In 2002, she started the Dallas Amputee Network with a small group of amputees who simply needed support, understanding, and people who truly got it. What started as a handful of members has grown into a strong community serving amputees, families, and caregivers across DFW and all of North Texas.

Ellen believed nobody should go through limb loss alone.

She built DAN around real connection, encouragement, friendship, and helping people get back to living life again.

Her heart still lives in this organization every single day.

We love you and miss you, Ellen.
